Hot and Sunny at Mustang Powder Horse Trials

5/23/2017

Comments

After weeks of rain and cold weather along the west coast - the sun came out for the Mustang Powder Horse Trials at Chase Creek Eventing.  There were exactly 100 horses entered and all the riders went home with a sunburn.  This is one of Z-Eventing's favourite events and there were lots of Z-Riders and spectactors.

And once again it was an awesome event!! The organizers and volunteers created a very well run event and the courses were fun and fair! All the girls rode really well, and our stable management was outstanding. Hungarian Villian was a star for his first outing, Freesala was on point. My main mount, Rubia,  is a gift.  She is such a lovely mare and I so much fun on course with her. Triple Sec and I had a hard weekend, but I look forward to seeing what Maddi can do with her!

Everyone on the Z-Eventing team had a great event with lots of smiles and ribbons.  There were a few dramatic moments that had everyone holding their breath - but everyone walked away smiling.  Thank you to the Holmes-Smiths for their hard work and hospitality - we all appreciate this amazing Event you are hosting.

Topline Spring Fling - Peyton's first show

5/23/2017

Comments

There was pouring rain, sunshine, hail and lots of ribbons for the Z-Eventing team at the Topline Spring Fling Hunter/Jumper Show.

It was a very special day for Peyton Adamski - she finally got her turn in the ring after watching her sister Austine compete all these years. We arrived Friday afternoon where she a loaded Cous Cous and got his stall organized.  Warming up with the "big" girls for made her feel proud and got her very excited for Saturday. On show day she competed in two flat classes and the rails on the ground.  Taylor helped get her pony show-ready and Peyton insisted on some colour (the all black and white is too boring!). Peyton earned two first and one second - now she can't wait to compete in cross rails at the next show.  Special thanks to Maddy Scott for being her coach - she never would have done it without you.   And a special thanks to all the other Z-Riders for cheering her on and making her first show so rewarding.

And since we are such a great team who work hard and help each other out - Z-Eventing ended up winning the Buckerfields Barn Challenge.  The Barn Challenge award goes to the stables with the most combined points.  Some of those points came from Olivia who won 1st in hunters and jumpers in her first show on Life of Reilly; Lexi won the 2'9" jumpers on Suki; Taylor and Maddy Jade won 2' and there were many more....  It was a very successful weekend and a great start to the season.

Lucinda Green Clinic

5/2/2017

Comments

On April 25 & 26 Rubia & I went to Aspen Farms for a Lucinda Green clinic.  Lucinda is a British equestrian who was World Champion, two time European Champion and an Olympic Silver medalist.  Now a selector for British teams, she is passionate about helping riders understand the way that horses think and react while tackling the challenge of the cross country course. She is a highly sough after clinician and one of my idols.

On the first day we did a bunch of technical lines with skinnies and different shapes - check out the video (
https://www.facebook.com/ZEventing.ca/videos/777168979124892/)  to see just how skinny!  We worked on control and letting the horse "find " the fences. Lots of alternating between galloping fences, then coming back to tough lines.

On the second day we did cross country jumps in he arena because of the rain. With Lucinda's urging -  I learned how to gallop again! I was told to " stop stuffing around and get on with it" and "To ride galloping fences, slow down, accelerate and then coil the springs".   A very helpful inspiring weekend!

I'm coming home with lots of homework for myself and new ideas for coaching.  And again, I am so grateful to Amy Click to be
riding Tomlong Rubia this year.

Horse Trials BC Spring Clinic at Johvale

4/25/2017

Comments

Now that the snow is finally gone everyone is stoked to start Eventing season.  And where better to get into the swing of things then at Johvale Stables at the Horse Trials BC Spring Clinic!

The coaches at last weekend's clinic were  Sandra Donnelly (Alborak Stables), Dana Cooke (Kingfisher Park), Leahona Rowland and Maeve Drew.  With Sara Sellmer, Sarah Bradley and Brandy Saunders doing the pace clinic.  There were many other supporting characters that made the weekend successful.  There were several volunteers from HTBC and the amazing Eats Amore food truck.

It was good see lots of registered Young Riders participating in the clinic and attending the information sessions.  Many thanks to Dana, Maeve, Sara  and Sarah for presenting.

There were all ranges of abilities attending from ZEventing.  It was Olivia's first cross-country outing all the way to Lindsay getting ready for her 1*.  We are so lucky to live in Eventing heaven - with facilities and coaches far surpassing what you would expect from a small city in the interior of BC.  Even the weather was great.

And because they just got posted - here are the links to the Galway Downs Ride-On videos from for some of our Z-Riders:

2017 Eventing Schedule

Find it all right here: http://www.lanzeloteventingstables.ca/uploads/1/7/3/0/17306354/2017-calendar-events-zeventing.pdf

ZEventing Clothing

Everyone needs some ZEventing swag - so Ashley Sudds is making it happen.  There are jackets, shirts, an apron and baseball caps.  Order forms due by Feb 20th.   Based on quantities ordered, the prices will change slightly. Payment is due by Feb 27th.

The logo patches are for sewing onto our own saddle pads. The Horse Barn can sew them on for us, Ashley might collect a pile of people's (labelled) pads to take to the Horse Barn for them to sew the patches on.

HTBC Clinics and Young Riders

Registration for the Spring Clinics is now open at horsetrialsbc.com - the Johvale Spring Clinic with coaches Sandra Donnelly, Dana Cook, Leohona Rowland, Maeve Drew, Brandy Saunders, Sara Sellmer and Sarah Bradley is one you don't want miss!  It is on April 21-24 and there is also a Young Riders Social & Education Session.

Speaking of Young Riders...  Young Riders is a program for all Horse Trial BC members 21 years of age and under.  Please join this great group for exciting opportunities, support and encouragement! Young Riders initiatives run throughout the year!  It DOES NOT MATTER at which level you compete, you are eligible to be part of the program.  It cost $20 to join the program.  Which is well worth it considering you can apply for a $100 subsidy to attend one of the HTBC Spring Clinics.  Forms for both are at: http://www.horsetrialsbc.com/index.php/young-riders/young-rider-forms

New Name

The eventing program run under the tutelage of Sara Sellmer is now officially known as Z-Eventing.  You have seen the new logo and the website url will be changed soon as well.  FYI, lanzelotstableseventing.ca links  will no longer work.

HCBC Membership

You need to renew your Horse Council of BC membership - everyone riding with Sara or at Copper Hills needs to be a current member.  And while your at it, you might as well renew your Horse Trials BC membership (you can do it in the HCBC renewal steps).

Successful weekend at Aspen Farm Horse Trials

9/15/2016

Comments

Aspen Farm Horse Trials was a total success for the small team of Z Eventing riders participating.  Sara Sellmer, with head groom TJ Drake, and apprentice coach Madeleine Scott made the drive to Yelm, Washington to compete on 4 horses.

Sara and TF Kreisel (Brad) entered into the “Adequan USEA Advanced Level Gold Cup”.  Sara also rode Triple Sec in the “Tin Men Supply Area VII Open Preliminary Championship” and Midnight Tango II in Open Preliminary.  Madeleine was riding Eleanor Go Brightly in her debut at the Training Level.

All four partnerships had successful events!  Triple Sec was foot perfect in her jumping phases and ended up in 9th place.  Midnight Tango II ran his first Prelim event and was a total star in all phases - finishing in 5th place after a double clear cross country round. This was Eleanor Go Brightly first Training event – with Madeleine in the saddle, they improved their standings with each passing phase and the pair looked polished and are a very promising partnership.

The highlight was Brad’s great event and 2nd place finish.  They started off on the right foot - tying for 2nd place with a 30.7 in dressage (even after Brad did some extra flying changes that weren't required).  But people really started to notice when they came galloping in over the cross country finish line 20 seconds to spare and lots of horse left. They were the fastest time over the course – “Brad was fantastic. He was hunting all the jumps. I knew by fence 3 he was on, and then I just enjoyed it and let him do his thing. He got a bit long to the water, but he is so quick and honest it worked out.”  They finished in 2nd place overall by .3 points!    ‎

Lots of press coverage was a bonus, people were watching:

Of course – it only ran so smoothly for everyone because of TJ's amazing work!

Big Crew to Campbell Valley Horse Trials

8/17/2016

Comments

Campbell Valley Horse Trials has always been a favorite event for Lanzelot Stables.  The great facility brings lots of family and friends down to Langley to cheer on our riders (and a chance for our boys to continue their ongoing crib tournament).   Another young tradition is that our Lanzelot boys organize and cook the Young Riders fundraiser BBQ on Sat night. Thanks a million to our guys - it was delicious, fun and the proceeds go to a worthy cause!

The 3 day format should add a bit of simplicity to our large crew knowing that everyone does the same discipline each day. However we brought 18 horses (Sara rode 6 of them) and had to dedicate an entire horse trailer for feed - that made the weekend a little more complicated!

With so many bodies around it can all get a little chaotic. There are lots of horses, people, tack and grooming supplies moving around and being shared, however, everyone always  pitches in and helps each other out. Everything from adding 1/4 marks and our Z logo to the horses to borrowing a crop so you don't have to make another trip back to the  trailers. No one stops until all the work is done and all horses and riders are taken care of.

Our crew started the event off with Sara and Brad performing the Advanced Combined Test and we finished the show with Taylor Drake on Maddy Jade and Austine Adamski on Mini Cooper getting 1st and 2nd in the Starter division!

With that much support it was no question that all our horses and riders looked and performed like champions!  Our numbers and results demonstrate how hard we all work year round to be a successful team.  See you all next year for sure.

Dreams do come true

7/24/2016

Comments

The past two weekends have had Z-Eventing on the road - first to the Mrs T Memorial Horse Trials at Maple Ridge Equestrian Centre (MREC).  Only a small crew went down - and 3 of the participants were in it for their first ever horse trials.  Dr. Jennifer Jackson (who also happens to be our veternarian) went down on her new horse For Pleasure (Ari Gold) who was previously Sara Sellmer's Intermediate mount.  And Sara brought down two new horses: Rivendell and Freesala.  Veteran team Mia and Life of Reilly also made the trip.
From Jennifer:
Dreams do come true! And last weekend, Maple Ridge Equestrian Centre provided the background for one of the most amazing weekends of my life.

Somewhere among the chaos of being a soccer/ski mom and busy veterinarian I had forgotten I could have so much fun!  This was my first horse trials ever and first equine competition in a very long time.  Fortunately Ari Gold is an experienced and amazing horse; Sara Sellmer is a very generous and enthusiastic coach; TJ Drake is undeniably the most supportive person and Sally and Mia were so helpful getting me through my first show, and recording my first cross country course.

Every minute of the weekend was fun. From riding at twilight on Friday to picking up my ribbon on Sunday. I can't say enough about how great our Lanzelot team is and how valuable it was for me to invest in this adventure.

And then there was The Event at Rebecca Farms...

This past weekend saw Sara and TJ went down to Montana with three horses and no less than four additional Z-eventing team members who made the trip to support, watch and have fun - but not ride.  "The Event" at Rebecca Farms is beautiful, fun masterpiece of an event - every successful trip to Rebecca Farms is a dream come true.

Sara was riding three horses and finished in the ribbons on all three.  TF Kriesler (Brad) was 2nd after dressage and cross country, he had two rails stadium and finished 7th.  Triple Sec (Rowan) was 12th after dressage, moved up to 7th after a double clear cross country round and finished 4th with another double clear in show jumping and  Midnight Tango II was 8th after dressage and finished 6th after clear rounds cross country and  show jumping.  We are so excited for our future with these amazing horses - there is no shortage of equine talent at Z-Eventing!!

The courses were beautiful, having the team there was great and party was fun! We can't wait for next year.
