Hot and Sunny at Mustang Powder Horse Trials

5/23/2017

After weeks of rain and cold weather along the west coast - the sun came out for the Mustang Powder Horse Trials at Chase Creek Eventing.  There were exactly 100 horses entered and all the riders went home with a sunburn.  This is one of Z-Eventing's favourite events and there were lots of Z-Riders and spectactors.

And once again it was an awesome event!! The organizers and volunteers created a very well run event and the courses were fun and fair! All the girls rode really well, and our stable management was outstanding. Hungarian Villian was a star for his first outing, Freesala was on point. My main mount, Rubia,  is a gift.  She is such a lovely mare and I so much fun on course with her. Triple Sec and I had a hard weekend, but I look forward to seeing what Maddi can do with her!

Everyone on the Z-Eventing team had a great event with lots of smiles and ribbons.  There were a few dramatic moments that had everyone holding their breath - but everyone walked away smiling.  Thank you to the Holmes-Smiths for their hard work and hospitality - we all appreciate this amazing Event you are hosting.

Topline Spring Fling - Peyton's first show

There was pouring rain, sunshine, hail and lots of ribbons for the Z-Eventing team at the Topline Spring Fling Hunter/Jumper Show.

It was a very special day for Peyton Adamski - she finally got her turn in the ring after watching her sister Austine compete all these years. We arrived Friday afternoon where she a loaded Cous Cous and got his stall organized.  Warming up with the "big" girls for made her feel proud and got her very excited for Saturday. On show day she competed in two flat classes and the rails on the ground.  Taylor helped get her pony show-ready and Peyton insisted on some colour (the all black and white is too boring!). Peyton earned two first and one second - now she can't wait to compete in cross rails at the next show.  Special thanks to Maddy Scott for being her coach - she never would have done it without you.   And a special thanks to all the other Z-Riders for cheering her on and making her first show so rewarding.

And since we are such a great team who work hard and help each other out - Z-Eventing ended up winning the Buckerfields Barn Challenge.  The Barn Challenge award goes to the stables with the most combined points.  Some of those points came from Olivia who won 1st in hunters and jumpers in her first show on Life of Reilly; Lexi won the 2'9" jumpers on Suki; Taylor and Maddy Jade won 2' and there were many more....  It was a very successful weekend and a great start to the season.

Lucinda Green Clinic

5/2/2017

On April 25 & 26 Rubia & I went to Aspen Farms for a Lucinda Green clinic.  Lucinda is a British equestrian who was World Champion, two time European Champion and an Olympic Silver medalist.  Now a selector for British teams, she is passionate about helping riders understand the way that horses think and react while tackling the challenge of the cross country course. She is a highly sough after clinician and one of my idols.

On the first day we did a bunch of technical lines with skinnies and different shapes - check out the video (
https://www.facebook.com/ZEventing.ca/videos/777168979124892/)  to see just how skinny!  We worked on control and letting the horse "find " the fences. Lots of alternating between galloping fences, then coming back to tough lines.

On the second day we did cross country jumps in he arena because of the rain. With Lucinda's urging -  I learned how to gallop again! I was told to " stop stuffing around and get on with it" and "To ride galloping fences, slow down, accelerate and then coil the springs".   A very helpful inspiring weekend!

I'm coming home with lots of homework for myself and new ideas for coaching.  And again, I am so grateful to Amy Click to be
riding Tomlong Rubia this year.
